I read the first few in this series almost 2 decades ago and remembered them as fairly humorous cozies: not great, but good. So when I was last in the states I picked up a copy of Estate of Mind in a used book store to see if memory served and whether or not it was worth continuing the series. It ...

I had to take a bit to think about this book and decide if I liked it. The Girl Who Married an Eagle is apparently the fourth book in a series about the Belgian Congo in the 1950s. I haven't read the first three books, but I didn't really feel like I was missing anything. The book is beautifull...

Worlds collide when spirited Julia Newton becomes a missionary at a boarding school for runaway child brides in Belgian Congo.During her brief sojourn into the world, Buakane — the good, the kind, the beautiful — had grown wings more powerful than an eagle’s and had soared to heights that this cruel...

The ending was a bit abrupt, but I did like the back and forth story telling. It weaved together nicely and was well written. Cripple was definitely my favorite character: wise, sarcastic, mischievous, caring.

Very light in plot, character, style, and overall content. I was hoping that our book club discussion would upgrade my opinion, but no luck. Not my cup of tea.

I'd never read any books in this series, so I had no idea what to expect. However, after attempting to read this one, I will never read one of these again. The violence wasn't a problem; it's a mystery novel, so I expected someone to get killed. The problems were the suggestive references and moc...

A book that starts with, "Amish men rarely get pregnant.", must be good - right? Bleck. Not amusing, unless maybe you're 80.

"I had no idea where I was, but it was as dark as a stack of black cats."I'm a sucker for mysteries set in the South. Especially in South Carolina.

I needed to read this book for a couple of reading challenges. I had started this series years ago and with this one, I remember anew why I stopped. The mystery was good and I didn't guess the culprit at all. But her character is more annoying than amusing. She's always "wailing" about something and...

I disliked this book so much that I couldn't finish it. I can only say that of a handful of books in my life ! Over the top corny, annoying main character, completely unbelievable situations and characters. This is the 17th in a series about a Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonite woman who is frequently inv...
