I am Tekla Miller. I was born in East Syracuse, NY as Tekla Dennison. Both my parents died by the time I was 13 and my older sister became my guardian. My work as a teacher in South Central Los Angeles after the riots in the 60s and with mentally challenged soldiers in Germany prepared me for my 20 year career in corrections where I became the warden of a men's maximum security and a women's multi-level prisons near Detroit, MI. I have puplished 2 memoirs and 2 novels. I have completed another novel and am working on a 4th novel. Among my awards I was given a honorary doctorate degree in humane studies when I was the commencement speaker at Cazenovia College, NY, the college from which I received an AA.
