Snow White and Rose Red live with their mother in a cottage. upon them comes a bear, out of the cold, into their warmth and into their lives. he stays with them a bit; they become a sort of family, until he must go away. the girls meet a strange and irritable dwarf and save him several times. he is ...

Gods, I'm so envious of Lanagan's prose. There's an ease to her writing that's just beautiful to read, and her style is so lyrical and poetic that it makes me want to cry. That being said, I didn't find this one quite as good as The Brides of Rollrock Island. I think as a fairytale retelling, it's as...

I had this book for my haul, but I left my reading material at home today and luckily, this was in the back of my car. 30 pages in, and I was too creeped out to continue. I do not want to read about incent, forced abortions and physical abuse. It says "dark: in the description, but "gross" and "un...

Beautifully written, though there's no happy ending in this fairy tale. The last page left me just as sad as the first, so I can't say I'm going to revisit or recommend. Oprah's bookclub would have loved TENDER MORSELS, it's a "rip your heart out" kind of book.

This book was horrifyingly amazing. Best book I've read in a long time. Not for the faint of heart, but it's great if you're wanting to get in touch with your emotions. VERY dark retelling of Snow White and Rose Red.

There's a part of me that's a little weary to read this, but I have an inclination to read anything centered on dark, twisted fairy tales.

Since I first opened the pages this book had been sitting at a '3' rating, I actually considered changing it to a 4 about 2/3rds in and then that ending happened! W-T-F?

Sometimes issues and fairy tales don't mix... That - or I was just not in the mood for the type of book that comes with a readers' group guide at the back.

It took me until page 63 to realize this is an adaptation of "Snow White & Rose Red" and that made me feel a bit dumb since that fairy tale is one of my favorites. I should have just read the author bio first and I'd have walked into this knowing what it was about.I read this because I'd read one of...
