The most effective oppressions take place in plain sight without any of us seeing it. Many atrocities including slavery and the oppression of women occurred daily for years without anyone questioning what was considered normal. Similarly, billions of animals are systematically enslaved, mutilated and slaughtered every day and society has been conditioned not to question this oppression or their contribution to it. The parallels between the justifications for this oppression and those of the past are stark. But if we were wrong about the previous atrocities, how do we know we are not repeating the same mistake only with a new set of victims, today?
