At first the book was delightful and funny. Then it started to jump all over time wise and something other than the dark nature spoiled the book. Maybe it was the unnecessary details.
Alice Sebold let me down with this novel. Had a hard time getting into the story and I don't think she brought the quality of previous writing to this text. May be OK as a first read, but pales compared to "The Lovely Bones".
Warning: May be a few spoilers for 'The Almost Moon' and 'The Lovely Bones'. I'll keep this short with minimal comparisons towards Alice Sebold's books because I'm sure most of us are sick of those comparisons anyways. There's only really two things I want to bring up, since I can't say I loved nor ...
Sebold is a decent writer (in my humble opinion) so I had a hard time wrapping my head around what went wrong with this novel. I was unable to finish this one.

In a books that starts with the main character murdering her aging mother, I couldn't quite grasp how this book could actually develop substance that would interest me. The dead mother was obviously a not-to-likable character, and I had no sympathy for the murderer daughter. Too many good things t...
I loved this book. I found it nearly impossible to put down, and I read later into a few nights than I meant to. I know this is controversial (most Sebold fans here seem to have hated this book), but I liked this one even more than The Lovely Bones. This is certainly a more mature book, and Helen, t...
I will be honest - I skimmed most of it. I could not get that into it and it was disappointing to me because I absolutely loved The Lovely Bones by the same author. It starts out interesting, but it just seemed to drag on and on for me as it played out. :(
Really, who hasn't had their difficulties with their mothers. But I just couldn't find anything to truly connect with or appreciate in this story where a daughter kills her elderly mother. It was truly one of hte most depressing books I've ever read. It's hard to read because you can't understand...
