This book was given to me as a gift a couple years ago for Christmas. I had put it on my list, needing to give my family some ideas. I think I had fallen for the "Anyone suffering Downton Abbey withdrawal..." line on the cover. Yes, there was a Downton Abbey feel, mixed in with some Upstairs Downs...

Cora Cash is the catch of her day. She is wealthy, beautiful and intelligent. Her mother wants her to gain a title, something Cora really cares nothing about, but her mother dictates her life, so off to England they go in search of a husband for Cora. As Cora gets drawn deeper into the English arist...

Not a single shining head turned in her direction as she followed Lord Bridport into the throng. Cora was not sure how she felt about this, to be anonymous was an unfamiliar sensation. I picked this up from the clearance rack at my local Half Price Books because not only did the cover catch my eye ...

Good, but not great. And if you're going to compare yourself to Downton Abbey, the least you could do is pick different names for some of the leading characters. I did enjoy the descriptions of the homes and the clothing.

It was hard to read the beginning of the book - I did not care for Cora at all, not one jot. I don't kn...

Substance wise The American Heiress does not have a lot to offer, however it was a very interesting, well written and well researched novel. I didn't think I would find it entirely memorable but I found myself thinking about it a lot after I finished it which is the mark of a good book. Historically...

I gave up.I got to page 132 and couldn't take it anymore.Whiny, primpy babies. That's what all of them were! No more for me, and it was NOT like Downton Abbey AT ALL.

I really enjoyed this book, all the characters were believable but I had a particular affection for the main character Cora and her maid Bertha. I loved all the detail of the clothing from the 1890's era.
