There's just something comfortable about reading Karen Lord's writing, to me. I'm not sure what it is, but reading this book - and Redemption in Indigo before it - felt not only fresh, but somehow familiar, like returning to an old book you've read and loved before. The characters felt like people...

So I was catching up on Booklikes last week and came across a post about an event taking place during the last two weeks of September entitled #Diversiverse hosted by Aarti Chapati’s blog, BookLust, inviting participants to read and review one book by a person of color during the event period. Gener...

Rameau's note: This review was originally posted on Love in the Margins. Sometimes late is better than never, right? I saw a lot of positive buzz around The Best of All Possible Worlds when it was published last year, but I didn't get around reading it until now. I was expecting more science and ...

Jane Austen Star Trek is pretty much everything you need to know. Humor, drama, telepathy and genetics combined in a tale where Mr. Darcy, one of the few Vulcans* who survives the destruction of his home planet, sets off to save his culture. Lord does an amazing job of what she set out to accompli...

What? For the most part a slice-of-life type story about the remnants of a destroyed planet settling on another one and trying to find local brides to pass on their genes with, with obvious romancey overtones. It's quick, straightforward and yet unhurried, and some reasonably deft, quiet characteriz...

Very likable characters, but not enough excitement to keep me hooked. The story meanders just a little to much. You can definitely see strong echo's of Star Trek's influence in Lords novel. If you enjoy your sci-fi on the lite side with a touch of romance this might be for you.

1.5 starsIf I could describe this book in one word it would be clinical. The sci-fi aspect of the world created by Lord is interesting, as are the different cultures/peoples but they play too little a role. Much of the book is spent with closed off beings (reminiscent of Spock) who are psionic and o...

I picked this one up because alien worlds, time travel, psychic powers, yes I want to read that. I just finished it and while I liked it, I also am going to have the hardest time talking about it.Sci fi relationship book is what first came to mind.Yep, we have some time travel, interplanetary massac...

I felt like this was very clinical. The setting meant little, the characters meant little. I DID enjoy getting a love story out of basically Uhura falling in love with Spock. It was plausible and it even made me a bit happy. The last 20 pages basically RUINED the love story, however. It is important...
