4.75 stars I am often reluctant to reread childhood faves, because as I've aged, my reading tastes have changed. Since The Black Stallion was written almost 80 years ago, the age of the novel also gave me pause. I impulsively checked it out of the library anyway (I do have an ancient hardcover co...
How do you ever talk through a review about a book you love? This was my first time re-reading this book since the first time I came upon the book series some ten years ago. I was overwhelmed with sentiment just seeing its title in the library, and it was the first book I picked out of a pile of sev...
This is a wonderful book and made for an equally impressive movie. It's a fabulous tale about Alec Ramsey's adventures with a wild stallion he first encounters on a boat. Their adventures are gripping and entertaining. Highly recommended.

I have no memory of this aside from the drawings. Walt, Walt, Walt, what were you thinking? Aliens? Aliens with a passion for horse racing? I remember loving this one as a child. Adventure, friendship, it was just wonderful. I ended up reading and re-reading this one and the others in the series, but this one remains my favorite.

Farley based his iconic title horse on Ruffian, an extremely fast filly (whose time at some race tracks rivals or beats those of the great stallions) who died tragically after breaking her leg in a match race. That's only one cool thing a...
Nice read.
Great book, great movie. My big sister went through the horse freak stage, so of course I had to follow suit.
