First, to get this out there, I love British police procedurals. They are normally crisp, compelling and well written. The Burning is a premier example of the best the genre has to offer. Written from the viewpoint of Detective Constable (DC) Maeve Kerrigan, the story focuses on the hunt for “The Bu...
Police procedural about a serial murder investigation and a victim that doesn't fit the profile. Chapters switch back and forth between two of the characters: Maeve Kerrigan, the DC in charge of investigating the copy-cat murder, and Louise North, the best friend of the victim. A couple of chapters ...
The debut of a new young detective Maeve Kerrigan, which is a nice change from the older woman detectives (though I love those as well). She is ambitious and smart and looking to solve the mysteries. Loved her grit. Final verdict: Looking forward to the next in the series
Synopsis: There is a Burning Man serial killer running around London. His latest victim, Rebecca Haworth, has a history behind her, but is she truly his latest victim or of a plot much more sinister. DC Maeve Kerrigan is determined to find out even if it kills her!My opinion: I loved this series deb...
A serial killer is loose in London, abducting young women and setting their corpses on fire. DC Maeve Kerrigan and her colleagues have been on the trail of the “Burning Man,” but their efforts have so far proven fruitless. A fifth victim has just been found; however, the crime scene doesn’t exactly ...
Maeve Kerrigan is one of the few detective constable in London. She is called in to the 5th victim's scene. She has some interesting questions and gets deeply involved with the case. The story is well planed out. The flow is steady and easy going. It is like reading by the book case from the reports...

Known as the "Burning Man", he attacks women in the night, beating them and then setting their bodies on fire, destroying all evidence. Enter DC Maeve K...
Guest Review by Deneen (Emily @ Falling for YA's Mother!)The book was set in London and the vivid prose made me feel like I was really there. The book also alternated perspectives between the detective and the suspects. Each chapter was written through their point of view which made for a captivatin...
Enjoyable but ultimately forgettable. Too slow a pace for me but still an enjoyable mystery. Was hoping for it to be a bit more 'thrilling' though.
"You can change everything about yourself - the way you look, the way you talk, the way you behave - but you can't escape what you truly are..." so says Louise North, one of the multi-faceted characters in Jane Casey's The Burning. I remember reading a review before starting this book that indicate...
