Books of 1916: Part Two The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Since childhood I’ve been familiar with the plot of this short novel; people talk about it all the time because it’s so compelling. I even had the first sentence memorized thanks to my older brother. Reciting it was a warm-up exercise in s...
If a movie adaptation of this novel had ever been made, it would have had to involve Tim Conway and Don Knots. Nominally a romance, but truly, the book is pure slapstick comedy from start to finish. Lord Rule was the only character that wasn't ridiculous, and as a hero, this book does him a dis...
There are so many things I loved about The Convenient Marriage by Georgette Heyer, but there are a few little hiccoughs that held this one back from being a sparkling gem like, say, Venetia. (Love, love, love Venetia!!). I'm not sure when I enjoyed reading a first meeting between two principals, H...
This was my first Georgette Heyer, to which I was irresistibly drawn by the fact that it's an audiobook read by Richard (Thornton Guisborne Thorin) Armitage. Also: Georgette Heyer. All I've ever heard about her is how wonderful her books are, the epitome of their genre, not to be missed. I feel let...

Possibly done on purpose to support the plot of the "convenient marriage", but it did disappoin...
I had read this book a long time ago in paperback and only remembered a few parts of it. Listing to the audiobook was fun. This isn't my favorite Georgette Heyer book because I kind of find the heroine of this to be annoying but it's still a really fun story. Actually to me the heroine of this st...

The secondary characters are the ones that made this book unforgettable, they stole the show. Horry was a fun character but I lost patient with her half way through the book. Rule just bored me to death.
