It's strange, but in a lot of fantasy books it's obvious to me if they are written by a man or a woman. This novel's atmosphere was similar to the novels written by Michelle West. Liked it, didn't love it. But the writing is good, and the world interesting enough that I've already started the next one.
This book had a much slower pace than I'm used to, nor do you see any magic first-hand until about 200 pages in. But it was worth it.
