by Dave McKean, Neil Gaiman
This book started like this. My son, who is called Michael or Mike these days, but was Mikey back then, was angry at me. I'd said one of those things that parents say, like «isn't it time you were in bed», and he had looked up at me, furious, and said, «I wish I didn't have a dad! I wish I had...» a...
Dave McKean is a terrifying, wonderful illustrator and pulls no punches with the children.
The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish is Neil Gaiman's first children's book. The main character and his little sister are playing out in the yard when a friend arrives with a goldfish bowl. Inside the bowl are too very gold goldfish. "I'll swap you for them," says the MC. He names a list of thi...
Fun but a slight disappointment after the genius of the Wolves in the Walls. Similar ending, too. McKean's illustrations are top notch as usual.
The name of this book was enough to convince me to read it. The fact that it was written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean just raises my expectations through the roof. This is a book that follows a typical family, mom, dad, son and daughter, on the day that the son actually managed to s...
Amusing but I might be too old for it :DPoor Dad, people sure abused him a lot. The indignity of being valued less than two goldfish etc.
Children's book I didn't like very much other than the McKean pictures. They should have left the useless Dad swapped.I'm sure the cult of Gaiman will disagree with me.
Intended for children, but grownups and teens will like it, too. Study the illustrations for poignant meanings. I really enjoyed this picture book.
I think the story is quite funny. But it's a picture book, and it's illustrated by Dave McKean, and his art disturbs me. Not in a good way, although maybe he'd think so.
Fun fun fun.
