Ferrante is marvelous. I have a copy of 'My Brilliant Friend' and will dive into it shortly. This one is affecting without being over-the-top, a harsh portrait of abandonment, grief, and the jarring loss of one's identity.

This is an intimate story full of symbolism telling of the breakdown, and eventual reconstruction, of emotions and sense of "self" of a woman whose husband left her. It was slow at times, intense at others. An examination of relationships and how we form them while they form us.
