This is a reread for me, huge fan of the Castor novels so the next little while will be loads of fun while I revisit that world. They are brilliant. So this is less a review and more a "read them - read them all!"
The Devil You Know was my second book by Mike Carey, although I didn’t realize it until after I’d already purchased the book. The first, of course, was The Girl With All The Gifts. While it wasn’t exactly filled with suspense, there was a good bit of a mystery involved in it. Carey did a great job o...
I was looking for a new series and I found it. Felix Castro (Fix if you're a friend) is an exorcist in a future London where the ghosts have risen in earnest. Some are your typical haunts, others come back and reanimate their own bodies or those of animals. In this world a loup garrou is an anima...
Hmm. I was pretty sure I reviewed this, but my review has disappeared. In any case, I just finished a reread, so I guess I'll use my GR review as a base and stick it up again. ~~Review After Reread~~ Despite the etymology of his name, Felix "Fix" Castor feels anything but happy or lucky. In his ...
If you like your Urban Fantasy far more on the Urban Noir side than the Fantasy, a less than clear black/white dichotomy in your moralities, and some really sparkling writing, then you totally won't go wrong with this one. Putting book 2 immediately on my queue at the library. My (lazy!) review of...
Book is OK. Not brilliant, not as fun as the Dresden Files, but OK. Dark, dry, cynical humor. Overuse of metaphors, every other sentence. The 'exorcise with music' is straight from Garth Nix's books. A lot of "Pratchetisms", sometimes almost outright quotes without a nod to the source. That irks me....
Hard-boiled urban fantasy is one of my favorite mutations of the horror genre of the last five years or so. Jim Butcher, with his character Harry Dresden--wizard for hire and fighter of the dark forces lurking in, under, around, below, above, and parallel with Chicago is, at this point, probably the...
...I had not thought death had undone so many. The Devil You Know (Felix Castor, #1) by Mike Carey Despite the etymology of his name, Felix "Fix" Castor feels anything but happy or lucky. In his altered world, in which the dead have risen and now pace the streets as zombies and ghosts, Felix's sk...
2 1/2 starsFelix Castor exorcises ghosts. At least he used to, until he binds a demon to one of his closest friends causing him to be locked in a facility. He lives with his other friend Pen. A case comes along just at the right time and he takes it. He doesn't think too hard about where they go, as...
In a world where the supernatural has become too close to our reality. Felix Castor is a freelance Exorcist, living with an ex-girlfriend, visiting a friend who really has a problem. He's been avoiding doing the job he used to because of a close encounter. However some old debts have dragged him...
