Even though I enjoyed the first part of the book, I ended up not finishing it when it became bogged down in Bentley being a navel-gazing jerk in the second half. When the tarot-reading grandmother from hell (one of the secondary characters in No True Gentleman, but really out of place in this story)...
This is Freddie and Bentley's story, and wow!! A lot of surprise twists in Bentley's history! Did not see that coming at all. Liz Carlyle has once again amazed and awed me with another great story. It was also great to see some of my favorite characters again in the Rutledge family.
My hopes for The Devil You Know were set too high because of the great reviews I had read here and in Amazon. However, I had only read one book by Carlyle so far, My False Heart, and I wasn't impressed with her style. It turns out I was right to be wary after all; the book had so much potential but ...
I didn't like Freddie much, but i did like Bentley. :)
