Peter Ustinov is a man of many parts: actor, playwright and director of films and plays. But audiences around the world know him best as a great storyteller. Never before has that storytelling genius been better used than in the two long stories which make up this volume.
The Disinformer is a darkly humorous tale of international intrigue. A British spy, now retired and embittered by the changing face of espionage, sets a trap for a group of Arab terrorists, but he finds himself caught up in his own web of deceit.
A Nose By Any Other Name is the story of a girl whose parents are simply too wonderful -- kind, clever, gentle. From them she has received everything, including her enormous nose. "A child of theirs," she complains, "didn't have a hope in hell. It had to have that nose." When she rebels against her heritage she finds that no surgeon's knife can cut deep enough to remove her parents' influence.
These novellas are the first fiction from Peter Ustinov for many years. Beyond the humour and brilliant language of the stories there is a layer of darkness which shows a remarkable insight into the human psyche -- a gift possessed by only the greatest storytellers.
