by A.S. Byatt
A. S. Byatt is never more prefect than when she is writing fairy tales. And this collection has my absolute favorite story of Byatt’s “The Story of the Eldest Princess”. In this short story, Byatt attacks the eldest always failing in fairy tales as well as aspects of story telling and fate. The ...
The stories in this collection are wonderful, even if this edition is unnecessarily typeset with wide margins and overgenerous linespacing to make the book look longer than it is, and reprinting the two stories from [b:Possession|41219|Possession|A.S. Wonderful short stories of mixing the modern world with the fantastic. Byatt is a gifted short story writer and those contained in this volume are wonderful examples of her craft and style.

I love fairy tales, but I also am the eldest child in my family and always felt a little slighted because in most fairy tales the older children fail. Even after I learned why that was, it still...
