To love him is to face her deepest fear... In search of a legendary mare, Lord Winter enters the crucible of the red sands, forging unbreakable bonds of loyalty and trust with his young companion in the desert. But hidden beneath the ragged costume of a Bedouin boy is a remarkable young woman: Zenia Stanhope, daughter of the extraordinary Queen of the Desert. Zenia wants nothing of the danger that Lord Winter lives for. She wants only to reach England, far from the blood and sand of the desert. But in one night of terror, condemned to death, their lives are irrevocably bound. Zenia escapes to an English world of elegance and comfort, leaving behind the lonely, fearless man who has changed her life and conquered her heart...until he returns to invade her sanctuary. Now she must choose between safety and love, but can she find the courage to be the person she was truly born to be? 5.0 Laura Kinsale's "The Dreamhunter"
Breathless (and sleepless) from reading this story. Amazing, fabulous, wonderful, an emotional rollercoaster, but completely satisfying at the end. Brilliant allusion to the iconic scene from Lawrence of Arabia with the train on the Yorkshire moors and the hero on his Arabian horse in Bedouin costum...

This was an accidental re-read, it wasn't until I was about a quarter of the way in that I realized I had read this one before. I couldn't bring myself to finish it the second time around. Zenia is such a pill, despite Kinsale's efforts to make her actions understandable.

She seems to suffer an extreme personality change when she puts on women's clothes -- it's eventually explained, but until then the second half of the book feels like it's a completely differe...

Really 3.5 stars. There was this really cheesy part at the end and the heroine really bugged me at times.
