This book had faults, but I didn't notice them much when I read the book as a child. I do, however, remember enjoying it a lot. It was also hard to get through, but I can't recall if it was because of a plot that dragged on or whether the problem was that I read it when I was a bit too young.

Had this story not held up to the fond memories I have of reading it the year it came out, I think I would still cling to it because it represented a major shift in how I think about literature at the time. It was the first time - long before I read about it or heard about it in lit analysis course ...

There was a lot that I really enjoyed about this book - stories of Zimbabwe, especially some of the ancient culture and the beliefs, the interesting characters - great child protagonists, and a great sense of humor in many of the situations. There were some terrific and weird char...

In Zimbabwe in 2194, the children of the ruling general sneak out of their mansion, get kidnapped by a genetically engineered talking blue monkey, are ...

I started reading this book for a lit circle, but then we changed books and I stopped reading it. I'm glad that I came back to finish the book, even though it wasn't as good as The House of the Scorpion. It was a great story, just a big confusing with the African mythology (at least until I discov...
