This book had faults, but I didn't notice them much when I read the book as a child. I do, however, remember enjoying it a lot. It was also hard to get through, but I can't recall if it was because of a plot that dragged on or whether the problem was that I read it when I was a bit too young.

I know I’ve been seeing Farmer’s books around since middle school, but I never read any of them. When I started this one, I realized my mistake. Set in a futuristic Africa, the story manages to be chilling, beautiful, and a rollicking good adventure story all at the same time. [2010 in books]
