My impression:A high fantasy novel with steampunk elements, featuring an intrepid female protagonist and a stone-faced, ninja-like assassin who simply have to work together and can’t help liking each other more and more – what can go wrong? Add to that a handful of colourful secondary characters: an...
Remember when I was writing, just yesterday, how a lot of fantasy had started to blur together? How I'd read some perfectly competent works that just didn't have their own unique voice - there wasn't anything wrong with them, per se, there just wasn't enough right? This was one of the books I was th...
What a fun romp—I love the hare-brained schemes and the irreverent humor. The characters are really engaging. Of course Sicarius, with his sense of distance and mystery, begs following just to catch another glimpse of what lies beneath that unreadable façade, but I also found Books and Akstyr intrig...
Amaranth is an Imperial Enforcer in a world where women are not considered capable of the job. She is routinely passed over for promotions and finds herself doing crowd control and cleaning up rather than investigating crimes. So when she is recruited for a special assignment to trap and kill the no...
I love this book. It is a great beginning to a fast-paced, character-driven fantasy adventure series. The Emperor’s Edge has all the ingredients for a great story: loveable characters, witty dialogue, a clever plot, evil bad guys, exciting derring-do, courageous heroics, engaging relationships, a hi...
Amaranthe Lokdon is a female Enforcer with a touch of OCD and a stalwart dedication to justice that would've done Batman proud. Through a series of events completely out of her control, she is thrust into the middle of a devious plot to assassinate the young Emperor and is forced to go on the run fr...
Wow! This book is amazing if you enjoy fantasy stories. It is so addictive with its whodunit/who's-in-on-it plot. They might be a bit of an odd bunch but they're all likeable in one way or another. This is the second book I've read by Lindsay Buroker and I think its fair to say she's well on her way...
This book was okay but nothing more. The story line was juvenile at best, making one scratch your head as people did one perplexing thing after another. The camraderie and interaction between the characters themselves was the best thing about this book, and honestly, it could be quite humorous at ti...
Really good start to this series. I liked Amaranthe. She's intelligent, kick-ass, and even has some humor. I enjoyed how she went about recruiting the people she needed to enact her plan. I enjoyed the interplay between all the characters. I am interested to see how the next book plays out.
At first I had a hard time getting into this, but it picked up and became interesting. It is the first of a series, but I don't feel compelled to read them all.
