A condemned prisoner gets offered the opportunity to reforge the emperor's soul after an almost fatal accident that left him brain dead. It's taboo magic, of course. Overall, this novella was quite interesting, although there were a few points where I sighed at the way I was fed the background inf...
The Emperor's Soul / Brandon Sanderson The Emperor's Soul is a novella about a thief and a Forger, her last operation betrayed, now awaiting execution for her crimes. Then instead she is offered the challenge of a lifetime, re-Forge the Emperor's soul, re-imbuing cognizant life into the damaged ves...
This Fantasy novella is a treat for anyone who loves character based fiction. Shai is a Forger, a foreigner who can flawlessly copy and re-create any item by rewriting its history with skillful magic. Condemned to death after trying to steal the emperor’s scepter, she is given one opportunity t...
I both adored The Emperor's Soul and was frustrated by this book at the same time. The story revolves around Shai, who has been captured after forging the Emperor's Moon Scepter. "Forging" in this book isn't forging in the sense that you and I understand it in this world (uh, that is to say, the r...
I really liked the premise of the novel and the inspiration that Sanderson formed the story from (explained after the novel, but largely Asian artwork and history). But while I didn't dislike the story I felt as though it was lacking. I could not help but feel the characters and the overall novel la...
Sanderson is not subtle enough to really pull this novella off. There are some good ideas about what makes up a person and how we become who we are, however he hits you over the head with those ideas. Still he is a rip roaring story teller and it's a decent enough read.

As always, Sanderson's magic systems are so unique and well thought out. He really delved into understanding someone's soul. I was deep for me in some parts. A wonderful r...
I will always love anything Brandon Sanderson writes. This novella was perfect. I couldn't fault it in anyway, and it was glorious to read on this breezy, warm Sunday morning. As usual, Sanderson's world-building (short as it was in this short novel) is impeccable, but it's his characters that always...
Very short novella, only 175 pages. What impresses me is the story he was able to tell in those 175 pages. The characters were a bit flat but I liked the world building and the story was really fascinating.
