I read the paperback version of this book (first in 2013 and again in 2019). I have never read a book where so much care was taken in its presentation. The edition I read had a deeper coloured cover. The edges of the pages were blackened and the paper scented in a way which promised arcane knowledge...
There are some books that just swallow you up, aren't there? You just want to inhale as much of them as possible as fast as you can, and they kind of take over your life for a few days, and it's sad but also sort of a relief that you can go back to normal sane reading for a while. That was The End...
Some very interesting concepts, ideas and thoughts are explored throughout The End of Mr Y and generally I found it to be an interesting and entertaining read .... Somewhat heavy subject matter written in a light and lively style. It was a nice introduction for me into quantum physics and thought ex...
When Ariel Manto, a PhD student working on research on though experiments comes across a book called 'The End of Mr. Y', a book she thought she would never find, a book so rare it is almost only known as a legend, on a second-hand book shop, Ariel has no idea how much her life will change because of...
The best: The cover art is quite cute & fetching. The rest: You know, I love metafiction, modernist books, mind-bending topics, surrealism, etc..., so I thought this might be a fun book. It's not. The characters are messed up & that's just not fun or interesting to read about page after page. I'm 182...
The author claims that she didn't want this to turn into a "shaggy God story" - but that's exactly what it is. I loved the characters, the philosophy and the science, but the ending was desperately disappointing. I'll be intrigued to see what Scarlett Thomas comes up with next though...
Ariel is a perpetual grad student with an attraction to danger and a penchant for self-harm. Her love of literature gets scary when she tangles with a cursed book - the End of Mr. Y. Her adventure takes her to another dimension of this world, and another dimension of her compassion for mice.
I think I`m too stupid for this book. I don`t know..I don`t get it. But regardless, this book is not as good as it`s trying to be. Does that make any sense?
This is one of those frustrating novels that leaves you immensely impressed yet somewhat disappointed. The impressive part is the way the author combines the mind-boggling philosophies of Heidegger and Derrida (yes, frigging Derrida!) into a fantasy regarding alternate realities, mind travel, and ev...
