How could I have neglected this book so long! I have found me a new all time favourite. You have no idea how lucky you are that most of the time I was too entertained to post. I have saved quotes at the rate of one-a-chapter, and I was trying to be conservative. I read, and I kept researching thin...

I loved this book the first time I read it (approximately two or three years ago), but had no intentions to read it again any time soon. Then it was chosen for our mother-daughter book club and, after reading it aloud with my ten year old daughter, I fell completely head over heels in love with thi...

Calpurnia Virginia Tate aka Callie Vee is a precocious “almost” 12 year old from a well to do family. The only daughter out of 7 children she is naturally expected to learn the domestic side of life to make herself more marriageable. Much to the consternation of her mother Callie is more of the tomb...

If you love feisty, independent females, brilliantly drawn settings, and writing that is simply lovely, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate is a must read. Go on, I’ll wait while you pick up a copy. Kelly’s novel is perfect for curling up with on a hot day (bonus points if you have lemonade) and I’m ea...

Really charming book. Hoped to read it along with my son, but couldn't get him interested. I finished it anyway, because I was enjoying it so much.

First off, this book is definitely my favorite cover of the year. Amazon is doing a best cover of 2009 contest and I could not believe that this book wasn't on it. In fact, the cover is what led me to pick up this book in the first place. The first page really drew me into the story. I didn't wa...

The summer of 1899 is a hot one in rural Texas. It's also the summer Calpurnia Virginia Tate (Callie Vee) discovers her grandfather. When Callie notices a new kind of grasshopper, she finds the courage to ask her taciturn grandfather where they came from. He assures her that she can work it out for ...

Not much of a plot, but Calpurnia's voice is entertaining and lively. A good novel for lazy summer afternoons.

This is one of the books I should have read and not listened-to. While the reader has a lovely voice, she's just not quite right for Calpurnia Tate, who should have been spunky and boisterous. She was a good choice for CV's mom or teacher but I felt she missed the exuberance of most of the children....
