I could not read this book fast enough. I *needed* to know what happened next. I had never read anything by Lackey before but after seeing her on a panel at Dragon*Con I definitely wanted to read this series. Unfortunately the second book didn't do as much for me as this one did and I haven't read a...
I am an utter sucker for re-telling of fairy-tales, or using established fairy-tales in new and interesting ways. This book is the first of the 500 Kingdoms series by Mercedes Lackey and I've heard mixed reviews on them, but I always like to start with the foundation book. This particular book ...
This was a slow journey and I found myself almost giving up a few times. I'm glad I pushed through because this was a good one. The mythology was the best part. The Tradition and Questers and Ladderlock paths were so awesome - I've never read anything even remotely like it. It took a lot of explaini...

This just never hooked me. I'm something of a fan of Mercedes Lackey's books: I've read a majority of them, and she's a prolific author--certainly one of those, that when this first appeared, I reflexively went to give it a read. I particularly love her Valdemar books, which she's arguably best know...
I love it when fairytales are retold... or at least are involved. This book was funny and romantic and so different from the fairytale norm. I think this one said, "What happens to Cinderella if her prince is much to young?". This twist was wonderful. Loved it!!
