Last week they invaded Manhattan. This week they will destroy the world. The vampiric virus is spreading and soon will envelop the globe. Amid the chaos, Eph Goodweather—head of the Centers for Disease Control's team—leads a band out to stop these bloodthirsty monsters. But it may be too late. Ignited by the Master's horrific plan, a war has erupted between Old and New World vampires. Caught between these warring forces, powerless and vulnerable, humans find themselves no longer the consumers but the consumed. At the center of the conflict lies an ancient text that contains the vampires' entire history . . . and their darkest secrets. Whoever finds the book can control the outcome of the war and, ultimately, the fate of us all.

Even if you have started to watch the TV...
This book is a continuation of the story started in The Strain. While I think it is very much a middle book, it's not a terribly boring or tedious middle book and kept me very engaged through the entire novel. Things are looking terrible for humanity as a Master vampire is busy taking over the US ...
Read this awhile back. Liked the premise, but it didn't quite hit all the marks. I enjoyed it overall. Would recommend for those who are a fan of vampire tales.
So now I need to finish this trilogy, quickly. Glad I waited until they'd published all three. Also, this series would make a good movie. Has a lot of the elements of Blade 2 - which Guillermo was the director of - and I think would be quite a nail biter.
