4.5 The Game of Kings buddy read complete
This was really something of a tour de force by Dunnett. I'm still certain that I missed a significant percentage of the plot, and even more of the literary, historical and linguistic allusions. 3.5 The Game of Kings (Lymond Chronicles 1) by Dorothy Dunnett

5.0 The Game of Kings

All the clichés are there: drinking contests, trial...

5.0 The Game of Kings (Lymond Chronicles, 1)
It took me a while to warm to this novel of 16th Century Scotland, the first in a series, but one that could stand alone. I wouldn't call it a slog exactly--it's never dull, but it is at times difficult. It's written in omniscient with a lot of archaic vocabulary and spelling, Scottish dialect, snat...
