I rate this 6 out of 10. I'm only raising it to a 6 is because of the last chapter. Sort of a 'and they lived happily ever after' chapter. The Ghost Brigades is a book about a traitor, his research, and the Special Forces of the Colonial Union. Jared Dirac was created for two purposes. Number one is...

Right, so Scalzi seems to be like eating chocolates: YUM! That was good. Where's the next one? The characters seemed not so strong in this sequel to Old Man's War but we learn a bit more context for humanity's constant interstellar warring with sundry (200+) alien species and there's an interestin...

The Ghost Brigades" took a while to get going for me. I was honestly worried about getting into a DNF situation because the first part is typical Scalzi-disease. He starts trying to over explain the world and the science behind everything at the same time. Usually I am just confused and then go, wai...

Book 2 of Old Man's War. More talking, less action made me like it less than book 1. There were pages I skipped completely because I wasn't interested in the science or rambling exposition. I also skipped some other parts that were about sex, also unnecessary and added nothing to the plot and jus...

In his novel Old Man's War, John Scalzi offered readers the tale of John Perry (the eponymous "old man" of the book's title) as he left the Earth at the end of his life and began a new one as a green-skinned soldier of the Colonial Defense Forces. While a solitary work, it also opened the door to a ...

This is the second volume of John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War series. H...

It's not unusual for me to get toward the end of a book and race to reach the conclusion. I've noticed, though, that there are two primary motivations for when I reach that point:1. The book is a slog, but still interesting, and I'm just ready to be done with it.2. The book is amazing, and I'm stru...

Very cool...The Ghost Brigades was an excellent follow up to Old Man's War. It's missing the main character from the first book, but that isn't a problem. Thus second book does a great job moving the larger story forward...in fact, I think actuality liked it better. Book number three coming up.

This is a sequel to Old Man's War, and I can sum up its flaws in a word: Exposition. As in the book is full of it. Too much. It lacks the kind of action that made Old Man's War interesting, and any time the plot is in danger of picking up too much momentum, the characters start talking. And talking. ...
