This had so much promise but, although I enjoyed some of it the way through, it was all so conveniently plotted that I didn't feel any real sense of conflict or satisfaction at the end. George Foss was also not a protagonist I was cheering on. I don't want to say too much or I'll spoil the plot but ...

George is having a midlife slump and then his girlfriend from college, who he hasn’t seen in 20ish years, walks into his local bar, needing him to help her out of the mess she’s in. This book felt like a noir movie, but I just couldn’t buy into it. I found the story to be slow, predictable, and tr...

When he goes to visit her parents, he discovers that the woman he thought of as Audrey is actually a con artist. She returns 20 years later and asks him for help. He soon finds himself in the middle of a murd...
