I have to say I was a little uneasy after reading some of the one and two star reviews for this book before cracking it open, but I was very surprised when I couldn't put the book down from the start. The background and setting are well researched and beautifully, in the most horrifying way, describ...

The Gods of Gotham was an impulse audio read from my trusty library, and it was definitely worth the read. The narrator really took this book where it needed to go. His voices were subtly different for each character. He endows Timothy with the integral mix of hardened cynic and stubborn idealist wh...

It's really a three star book, but I enjoyed listening to it more than I was irritated by the cliches. Plus she writes good dialogue, and who wouldn't want to be on the ground floor with the first New York police detective.

Along the way, Faye weaves in public health issues of the day (set in 1845), prejudice against Irish immigrants to NYC, comment...

This is quite likely to be the most enjoyable read I have had in quite some time. A brilliantly thought of plot with the perfect amount of factual happenings and completely fictional and a bunch of well-rounded characters that all went through consistent development throughout the book secures this ...

This is engaging from page one. You feel like you are in NYC, at the middle of the 19th Century. NYC has just formed a police force, due to rampant crime. There is filth and vermin and fires - great to have recently read [b:Triangle: The Fire That Changed America|108305|Triangle The Fire That Chang...

Hidden inside of a solid, well researched historical mystery is a polemic about the blind ignorance of religious hatred.
