I'm a Donna Leon fan, believing she's at the top of her game and one of the finest suspense writers of my time. I begin each novel with slight hesitation, hoping she's not tiring of Inspector Brunetti and his family, or his work in the floating city. This latest manuscript is one of her best. It also...

The Golden Egg is the 22nd outing for Commissario Guido Brunetti and finds him looking into the death of a deaf mute man who worked in the launderette Brunetti frequents. Book 22, in the Commissario Brunetti seriesFirst I admit being a huge fan of this series but after reading this latest I am really not sure what to make out of it. “The Golden Egg” unfolds in such a languorous manner and keeps the same slow pace throughout I felt I had taken a sleeping pill and wait...

Donna Leon and Commisario Brunetti at their best. The crime is once more a small one but it has a grand solution. And Brunetti's work-life-balance is amazing as usual.

With only a single Brunetti novel read, a sample size of less than 5% of this work, it seems to me that the Commissario is fortunate to live and work in Venice. His excessive scruples, and hesitant approach to interviewing and questioning those who might help him unravel the mystery of the death of...

Not as dark as Beastly Things which was something of a relief. This one makes me think hard about language. Ms. Leon is a master at making the reader hate some (hateful) characters. Visceral.
