A worthy successor to the first in the series. Capably juggles three possible heroes, all with significant anti-hero qualities: sarcastic Bartimaeus, ruthlessly ambitious Nathaniel and terrorist/freedom-fighter Kitty. Good action, some pretty scary bits with skeletons that I'd keep away from the kid...

Pages: 562. Genre: YA Fantasy. First Sentence: "At dusk, the enemy lit their campfires one by one, in greater profusion than on any night before." Summary: It has been a few years since Nathaniel and Bartimaeus last met, and since then, Nathaniel has made a name for himself in the British governm...

The only thing I was a little disappointed with this one was that Bartimaeus was less involved than in the first. On the other hand, we got to learn more about Kitty & Co, which was a good thing.
This book, like the first one, was very so-so for me. It had good points--Barty was annoying but entertaining, and again, the plot was good. It was also the first time I ever read about the Rosetta Stone kicking the bucket, which was cool. I liked the fact that Barty shapeshifted and worked magic mo...
