besides the ending being ridiculously cheerful with an annoying go get them attitude, and the over-whelming amount of crying done by Nya from guilt this book was actually pretty good. it was a quick fun read. I overall enjoyed the main character, Nya and the main side characters. i found them amusin...

I seem to be in a minority here with my rating of this book. It teeters very much in the "MEH" category, but I have to admit that once the show got going, I found enough enjoyment in it to continue reading the rest of the series. At the very least, there's a sense of, "Hmm, what's next?" going o...

I really enjoyed this read about a girl who can take pain from someone and transfer it to someone else. She isn't supposed to be able to do this, healers in this world take pain and transfer it into a stone, which is very valuable and is getting rarer. Nya lives in a world where they're at war, th...

3 1/2 stars. It reminded me of Touch of Power and there were also things in it that reminded me of Star Crossed by Elizabeth Bunce, but this one more of a middle grade book.

Definitely a great series, but I think it might be better for an older, more mature kid. It has some violent scenes, but I loved reading through it and the action started from the first page and didnt stop until the end. I will be adding the next books to be "to read" shelf.

How nice to read a young adult fantasy book where there were no vampires, werewolves, witches or fairies. The setting was interesting, if a bit obscure. There is a fine line between overwhelming the reader with your world building, and leaving the reader hanging.Still, I found the premise interest...

This was thoroughly enjoyable from the first page. The characters were endearing, believable and real. Nya rushes headlong into her decisions like most teens and has to deal with the consequences. I love the idea of the Healers/Takers and Shifting in general. How imaginative! I also love that Janice...

Thank God one of my best friends’ is a book-worm just like me. I snagged this book from him and I’m so happy that I did. It was just amazing, holy shit.Wow is one of the words that come to mind when I think about this book. The Shifter is told from Nya’s Perspective and she lives in a country where ...

So the main reason I bought this book is because someone said that the one I’m writing sounded a lot like it. Of course, as soon as I read the back cover I realized the only similarities was that the main characters could heal people using magic (a common fantasy trope) and they had little sisters. ...

Opening line: “Stealing eggs is a lot harder than stealing the whole chicken.”From the front flap: “Nya is an orphan struggling for survival in a city crippled by war. She is also a Taker–with her touch, she can heal injuries, pulling pain from another person into her own body. But unlike…other Take...
