This book comes on the heels of 'Nefertiti', by the same author. This plot is more exacting and multi-faceted, as there are more 'moves' being made by other court figures, compared to the former, which on account of its more totalitarian and maniacal governing by Pharaoh Amunhotep, restricted action...
At first I was pretty disappointed in this novel, perhaps because Nefertari was thirteen and her narrative was extremely childish and I had been hoping for something a little more substantial. However, later on it fulfilled those expectations. This is a beautiful story of a girl growing up, becoming ...
I really wanted to like this book more than Nefertiti, and when I first started reading it, I thought I might.Unfortunately, the book devolves pretty quickly into harem intrigue and cat fighting. For historical personages that are supposed to be so smart and accomplished, there was a whole lot of ...
Michelle Moran certainly knows how to unfold the political intrigue that is enmeshed in the history of Nefertari's family and keep me interested. This book seems to also have been well-researched, as far as I can tell. As someone who's only ever read about Egyptian history to idly pass the time, I d...
I absolutely enjoyed this book! Much more than Nefertiti. I think the description is wrong in saying this is a stand alone novel and not related to Nefertiti. It absolutely is and if you don't read Nefertiti, you might not understand some of things that happen in this book, like how Nefertari's pare...
Great book... it's got me wondering what other historical fiction I can find from this time period. At times I felt like it got a little too political and dry but those were few and far between. I'll probably read it again before I bring it back to the library.
The Heretic Queen is the story of Nefertari, the daughter of Mutny, therefore making her the niece of Heretic Queen Nefertiti. The book picks up years after Nefertiti ends. Nefertari is the last of her line, but her family’s history is never forgotten from Egyptian memories and they are not afraid t...
I could hardly put it down! It was a wonderful blend of historical facts and fiction...I didn't even know of Nefertari until now, and little of Ramesses. Fun read! Now I want to borrow the book about Nefertiti! :o)
I had thought Nefertiti was bad. I didn't think that it couldn't get worse. It did. This fluffy, stupid, tale of Rameses II's great love, Nefertari, is reduced into a tawdry romance full of plotting priests, high-heeled sandals, tolling bells, never ending meals of pomegranate sauced ducks, and othe...
