WOW. I was not expecting this book to be as good as it was. This book is made up of 13 episodes plus extras. I'm hoping these episode set up the next book, The End of All Things which I'm starting as soon as I finish writing this. The last few episodes were really good and made this worth the time...
OK, let's keep score:Old Man's War: John Perry (smart-arse)The Ghost Brigades: John Perry's girl friend (mostly non-descript, mildly bad-ass)The Last Colony: John Perry and now wife (smart arse and stereotypical loving Mum, (still mildly bad-ass))Zoe's Tale: Zoe Perry (smart-arse)The Human Division:...
I read The Human Division a few months ago. Since I thoroughly hated it, I tried to return it to the library where I got it from, put it out of my mind, and hope that after a few days/weeks/months, I’d have a more favorable view of it in hindsight. But that hasn’t really happened. Honestly, time has...
The Human Division is a group of stories all related to the diplomatic services of both the CDF and Earth and the work due changed realities of the Earth aware of how the CDF walled them off from the larger galaxy. During the first half of this read, I was not seeing how the stories were related but...

The Human Division is the last in the chronology of the Old Man's War series, which really wrapped up with The Last Colony, but then went on for some minor edits with Zoë's Tale. And where Zoë's Tale was mostly a repeat of the book that preceded it, The Human Division winds up being more a marketin...
John Scalzi seems determined to set himself a challenge with his latest entry in the "Old Man's War" series: tell several stories in a series of stand-alone parts that nonetheless can be brought together into a larger narrative. Though this can seem a writerly stunt, Scalzi pulls it off successfully...
4.5 stars. Back when I first started getting into reading more sci-fi, John Scalzi's Old Man's War series was a great starting point. The books had just the right mix of space travel, aliens and futuristic technology, but were still light enough not to intimidate a relative newcomer to the genre. No...
For some reason I wasn’t quite sure I would like this one, even though I’ve definitely been a fan of the other books in the Old Man’s War series. That was silly! The Human Division works well as an overarching story, continuing the questions and difficulties raised in the other OMW books. I am curio...
It was good to be back in the Old Man's War universe again and see what happened after The Last Colony ended. Nothing especially new, but good writing similar to Scalzi's earlier work. However, the serial nature of the short stories felt a little disingenuous. All the stories are supposed to be st...
