It has been a long time since I have read The Secret Garden, and I suppose I will have to reread it to follow up on the heels of this book. I did remember enough of the classic story to be able catch the references in Potter’s book. The Humming Room is a modern reboot of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 1...

It wasn't bad but I guess that I felt that there was no point in stealing writing a book that was A. Not as good as the original, [b:The Secret Garden|2998|The Secret Garden|Frances Hodgson Burnett|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327873635s/2998.jpg|3186437]B. There was no new flair to the story and C...

A 20th century retelling of The Secret Garden. It was fine, but lacked the charm and atmosphere of the original. Quite short and sticks to the general plot. Nothing objectionable, nothing stand-out.

The story begins with Roo hiding beneath her trailer, after her father and his girlfriend are murdered. Shortly after, Roo is taken to live with her uncle - a man that she's never met, on Cough Rock. Used to being left on her own, Roo struggles to deal with the watchful eyes of her uncle's staff. Sh...

I really liked this retelling/homage to The Secret Garden. It does rely pretty heavily on the source material, not only for plot, but almost for the emotions. Which means that I found myself wondering how well it would work for someone who hasn’t read Secret Garden. I don’t think it really would. Or...

This is the kind of book that made me fall in love with reading as a child. It has the simple bits of magic and mystery that took me away to a different place. The characters are flawed and a bit tragic. The reader gets to peel back the layers to see where they came from and who they really are. Roo...

This middle grade novel is a contemporary version of The Secret Garden. I really like the characters, the setting is cool, and it is a terrific read. I highly recommend.

I liked the story but then it just ended so abruptly. I'm actually still feeling annoyed whenever I look over and see the book. How hard would it have been to add some sort of resolution to some of the story lines?? Not that I don't appreciate the joy in using one's imagination but...

This is an excellent mystery for middle grade children, boys and girls alike. It is a mystery, quite tense and scary at times, filled with all the excitement of a ghost story on a lonely island. It is a story of friendship, of loss and renewal, of coming of age, of the beginnings of romance. It is a...
