I reread the Hunger Games earlier this year and then again in October. I have my problems with it (first person narration probably being the biggest), but it's one of the better YA books I've read. Very formulaic but here it works.
I think that you could read this book with your 6th graders. Especially, during whole group. It will keep both the girls and boys entertained. It would be a good way to introduce the students to different types of fiction. In this case Dystopian.
