3.5 starsI enjoyed this short story. It's bittersweet, but I wouldn't expect anything less from the author.
The fantasy elements are as fascinating and compelling as the story of a family who loses their mother, Beth, during childbirth. Adara, Beth's youngest daughter, is cold, and distant, and born during winter. The titular ice dragon comes each winter for Beth, getting closer and closer to her even...
Martin Writes Fantastic Children's Novella “The Ice Dragon” is wonderfully written children’s story by master fantasy author George R.R. Martin, he of Game of Thrones fame. This is a lovely little book that has quite the fairy-tale-feel to it, in that the characters don't have that much of an individual personality and the setting is pretty unspecific, both time- and location-wise. It's really quite a charming little tale - I mean, it's got dragons in it, how can it NO...
The Ice Dragon tells the story of Adara, a child of winter, her only friend, an dragon made of ice, and a war that would change her life forever This book is an illustrated chapter book, I'd place in the 10-15 year old age group. It's a touching story and one that will make the reader really think. ...
G.R.R.Martin and dragons...'nuff said
It was okay. I am a fan of ASoIaF, so it was cool to see a small snipet of Westeros in a children's story, but it wasn't anything too amazing. ***SPOILER WARNING***I found the end a bit sad. Maybe a bit too sad for the target audience, though I get that he was going for a fable type feel.
Being a "winter child" myself, I was a little disappointed in the ending, but all's good for a children's book. :)
Prettily written, but not particularly memorable. Suitable for children ages 5/6 +.
