This is one of those books that despite recognizing some skillful and impressive writing, goes under the category of not-for-me. The writer cites Faulkner as one of his influences and something in Jones' style does remind me of that author, admittedly not a favorite. The Known World is set in pre-Ci...

readable story but didn't quite grab my attention and I didn't really care or get involved in the characters. It did read like how my father tells stories all the same, wandering around and eventually getting to the point.

This is one of those books you either love it or hate it. I loved it. I need to describe it as thick. It was full of descriptive prose and it demanded that I become absorbed in it and I complied. At times it filled me with such deep emotion that I had to put it down. It's not often that a book h...

More heartbreak from our country's history told through a form of slavery not before discussed, black slaveowners. Very sad.
