One of the things I love about science fiction, disaster movies, and pre/post-apocalyptic stories is the examination of the inevitable breakdown of society. To see it from a detective’s point of view, during the course of a murder investigation, was something new to me and it made for some damn fine...

NOTE: Review of all three books. Recently promoted and rather young, Hank Palace is the only detective still solving cases (officially and unofficially) since asteroid 2011GV1 was discovered to be on a collision course with Earth. These novels present an interesting depiction of the U.S.A before...

I can't really explain how much I loved this book, and the rest of the trilogy. Such an awesome plot, but I think the characters and their emotions are what really do it for me. And the writing is so incredibly satisfying... I loved it.My full review is here, on Hot Stuff for Cool People.

Thank you, Quirk Books. What I liked:the slow pace- I enjoyed reading the book in installments and the lack of sense of urgency helped keep things interestingpre-apolcalyptic setting was something differe...

The speculative premise of this book is what drew me to it: an asteroid on a crash course with Earth and how that affects law and order. Those elements also turned out to be my favorite as I read--not just how the government and law enforcement would change with a world-changing disaster a year away...

3.5 starsThis pre-apocalyptic, noir-ish police procedural was an impulse read and therefore my expectations weren't too high, but I ended up enjoying it. The writing is solid and goes by quickly, and as reviewers before me noted the book felt like the perfect length. The protagonist is a bit annoyin...

When Detective Henry Palace is called to the scene of an apparent suicide, he can't shake the feeling that it's murder. But with an asteroid due to hit the Earth in six months, no one really cares and with the infrastructure crumbling, Palace has his work cut out for him... It's taken me way too ...

An asteroid is on a collision course with Earth. The impact will annihilate most of the world’s population and those that do not die immediately will suffer immensely through resulting earthquakes and ash clouds. Folks are quitting their jobs, running off to do things they've always wanted to acco...
