This book had so much more potential! A good story was wasted here. The book started very well and I also liked how it ended. The problem was that the middle part was so extremely bad. I've seldomly read a book with such unlikable characters. Both women are acting incredibly childish and I also didn...
What a bittersweet feeling. Four stars for a beautifully written story and a main character (Tom) that is one of the best men I've ever read.
The premise of this book is that so many lives can turn on just one decision. At first, I felt that the book was moving slowly, but as the story focused more on the interplay between Tom, the lighthouse keeper, his wife Isabella, and their greatest fear: that someone would figure out that their daug...
What a surprise this novel was. It was heartbreaking, and definitely results in conflicting emotions. The ending had me in tears. I heard that this is going to be a movie, and I can't wait to see it. I just hope that it does the book justice, because it really was wonderful!

If you can remember that long-ago...

This is a sad, sad story. I was pretty sure it was going to be a sad, sad story when I saw it on the list of recommended books in the August issue of Oprah magazine. Oprah doesn’t really do happy. But this is sad. Very sad. Here’s the plot: World War I is over and Tom Sherbourne is coming home. He’s s...
To me this book centers around love and what it will make you do for someone; Tom's love for Isabella (and Lucy) drives him to do something that he knows is wrong, Isabella's love for Lucy drives her to take care of Lucy even though Lucy isn't her child, Hannah's love for her husband and daughter dr...
