I try not to do half stars since I post on Booklikes and Goodreads and Goodreads still doesn't have half stars for rating purposes. This was a strong 3.5 star read. I don't see me rereading this in the future and I had some problems with the book as a whole. However, I like this book has tired back ...

Doctor Faraday is a physician called out to a patient in an old run-down Georgian house in the summer of 1947. The patient is a young servant girl with a wild imagination. The family is from another world, a world of glamour and money and condescension, a world which disappeared with WWII but the fa...

The Little Stranger is an atmospheric read and has a nice gothic feel to it. And I really liked the way how Sarah Waters describes the dilapidated house, Hundreds Hall. I didn't find this one as entertaining as the other books of Waters' that I've read. After several months of occasional consideration, I think it's because the ending is so ambiguous. Now, ambiguous hauntings are actually my favourite kind--see Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House for a perf...

I listened to the unabridged audio version of this book but although the story was interesting, I have marked it down because it was just too drawn out and I lost interest well before the end. This was another book that I finished just because it was on audio. The main character, for me, was actually...

I feel like this book is almost perfect? From the first chapter, Sarah Waters instantly became an author that I will ration for my enjoyment to last longer. This is the ghost story that I've been craving. Because you can either believe in the ghost or not.
