- La propreté du corps est parente de la propreté de l'âme, n'est-ce pas Maria, plaisanta-t-il.

A story set in Victorian England with an orphan who moves to her uncles house. Her uncle is a man who is deeply involved in the local myths and legends and accepts them without question. Many years ago there was a conflict between his ancestors and the ancestors of the Dark Men and this has continu...

A little too sweet for my taste, but I can see why a young girl like J.K. Rowling would have liked it, and I can also see its influences in the Harry Potter books, particularly in the vivid description.

There are some beautiful aspects of this story, especially the descriptions -- nature, food, clothing -- there's a richness to them that is very appealing. I’m surprised by that now, because not only was it made into a TV mini-series in 1994 called Moonacre and a movie in 2008 called The Secret of Moonacre, but...

I didn't care for the cover, the poem, or the third paragraph: Humanity can be roughly divided into three sorts of people - those who find comfort in literature, those who find comfort in personal adornment, and those who find comfort in food; and Miss Heliotrope, Maria, and Wiggins were typical re...
