Series: The Magicians #3 And the story arc is finally over. I must say that I did like Jane Chatwin's little dig when she said that "Quests were for children." It sums up a lot of these books. There's less of Quentin stupidly looking for a quest in this one though, so I rated it a bit higher.

My absolute favorite book of this trilogy, Grossman has pulled off a true hero's journey for Quentin, while giving rich character development to the other members of this book's ensemble cast. The mature version of himself that Quentin becomes by the end of this installment feels almost like a comp...

Quentin is back at Brakebills, because where else do you go when you’ve been exiled from your magical kingdom. There he and a student get wrapped up in something extracurricular and find themselves fighting to get back to save Fillory. I really enjoyed this book. I loved Elliot and Janet in this ...

At the risk of sounding obvious, this is a book about magic. Not just literal magic, but the magic of life and love. It is a story about hope and happiness and awe and amazement. It is a coming of age tale and for me, the strongest book of the trilogy. Every book in this series has gotten better and...

I thought I'd written this review already....crud.'The Magician's Land' wraps up the series and he ties up every loose end, often creatively. As a whole the series undermined and rebuilt reader expectations for the fantasy genre - let me correct that, it challenged the expectations of readers who do...

A great finish to an excellent series. I really enjoyed the first book of this series but for some reason was leery to continue as I was not really sure where it was going. I am glad that I got over this and tried the next book in the series and to my glee, the author not only took me in places I wa...

Yesssss. This is the way to end a trilogy. Normally, book endings fizzle out and disappointment, but Grossman did a wonderful job wrapping altogether the trilogy and did not leave me hanging. Of course, there was enough to move on to more books if needed. I don't want to spoil anything in my review ...

I’ve had a tempestuous relationship with this series by Lev Grossman. The first book I started out liking--I loved the idea of a secret college for magicians in upstate New York--but in the end I rated The Magicians only 2 out of 5 stars, a bit harsh in retrospect because I read it straight through ...
