I've enjoyed Erdrich's short stories for a long time. Reading this novel, it occurred to me that each chapter reads almost as a short story itself; the chapters are related, and follow chronologically, but could also stand alone.An enjoyable read.
A good epic story with true to life characters. Also about the assimilation of Germans coming to the US after WW1, and how these families were affected by WW2.
I tried and failed to like this book. I was about half way through when I decided in favor of more pleasurable pursuits.
