Excerpt from The Missing Girl
Inside the room, Sneha found the results of the explosion everywhere. There was shattered glass on the floor, furniture was upturned and there were splatters of red on the wall and the floor. In the midst of all this stood a man.
He was tall and thin, with a mop of untidy silver-grey hair. He was very fair and his eyes were the brightest Sneha had ever seen. His bony face seemed to be dominated by the brilliant eyes and a hawk like nose. He reminded her of wizards in picture books.
Dressed in a bright red shirt and deep blue trousers with suspenders, he had a purple silk scarf draped around his neck. Sneha stood transfixed, staring at this strange man.
The man was smiling. In the midst of all this mess, he looked blissfully happy. Bits of plaster, probably brought down from the ceiling by the explosion, lay on his hair and clothes.
