by Robert Crais, Patrick G. Lawlor
I'm afraid this struck me as shallow and predictable as a television episode. The detective, Elvis Cole, reminds me of Magnum, PI. The copyright of 1987 puts it during the first run of that show--and this does read as very, very eighties with all its pop references. When the novel opens, Cole's wear...
Unless something surprising shapes up as I write this, I don't think I have anything new to add to the general consensus that other reviewers have established for this novel, the first mystery in a series that features private eyes Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. If you've read Robert B. Parker's novels, a...
Received as a Christmas gift, as Amazon.com recommended it to me based on my other reads and purchases. This is the first book in Crais' Elvis Cole detective series, and it's fast and fun. It's a nice easy read, a definitely got me interested in reading more of the Cole/Pike books.

Bundled with Lullaby Town and Stalking the Angel It becomes repetitive after a while and while it's not a bad read but a bit predictable.

Neither is his enigmatic partner and firepower Joe Pike. Their search down the seamy side of Hollywood's s...
Mort Lang runs off with his son, leaving his wife and daughters in the lurch. Elvis Cole is tapped to find him and promptly ends up in the middle of a plot involving two kilos of cocaine. Can Elvis find the drugs and find Mort and his son?I have to admit that I wasn't sold on Elvis Cole at the beg...
I have wanted to collect the Elvis Cole series for far too long and now that I have read the first book, I am in love with the series already. Elvis Cole is so cool and Joe Pike, what a guy. Their partnership reminds me of Patrick and Bubba from Dennis Lehane books. Robert Crais portrayal of the sto...
