The murder of Colonel Protheroe -- shot through the head -- is a shock to everyone in St Mary Mead, though hardly an unpleasant one. Now even the vicar, who had declared that killing the detested Protheroe would be 'doing the world at large a favour,' is a suspect -- the Colonel has been dispatched in the clergyman's study, no less. But the picturesque English village of St Mary Mead is overpopulated with suspects. There is of course the faithless Mrs Protheroe; and there is of course her young lover -- an artist, to boot.Perhaps more surprising than the revelation of the murderer is the detective who will crack the case: 'a white-haired old lady with a gentle, appealing manner.' Miss Jane Marple has arrived on the scene, and crime literature's private men's club of great detectives will never be the same.

‘Nobody knows a thing about it except you, Padre.’ ‘My dear young man, you underestimate the detective instinct of village life. In St Mary Mead everyone knows your most intimate affairs. 4.0 The Murder at the Vicarage

Mary Mead, Mr. Clement, and as the title suggests, it´s his study in which Colonel Protheroe has been killed. So the vicar starts to investigate on his own and has to deal w...

5.0 Murder at the Vicarage - Agatha Christie
Miss Marple is such a wonderful idea. She's smart, but overlooked by society who's willing to use her skills without giving her any credit. Lucky thing she didn't decide to go over to the dark side, eh? Since I can't remember anything about it without reading the blurb, it must be time for a re-read...

3.0 The Murder at the Vicarage: A Miss Marple Mystery by Agatha Christie (audio)
I'm giving it a 3 because I didn't hate it and I didn't love it and because I can. I’ve never read an Agatha Christie novel. There, it has been said. I received this audio free from the SYNC summer reading program last year. Apparently it’s the first book in a series. Yay SYNC. I usually pick up...
