Story is set in 1876, our world but with a few magical additions. The story is full on action once it gets going, with the romance taking a backseat up until the last chapter or so.Clever, inventive world. Non-stop action. Great bad guys. Feisty, independent heroine. Stubborn, different kind o...

Native Star is set in 19th century America, an America which is vaguely steampunky, but much more magical. 3.5 stars. This book was definitely not the steampunk adventure that I was expecting, but I still found it engrossing and highly readable. Review to come!

Very slow beginning where I had to force myself to read it. Then a little less than halfway, the story finally started grabbing my attention. I'm planning on reading the rest of the series.

Normally I am not a fan of magic in books, since most of it just seems nonsensical to me. What this book does a pretty good job of, though, is laying out the ground rules for how the magic works in this universe, and it even delves into the source of it all, which reminded me a bit of the Xanth nove...
