I've heard people raving about the audio-books and the books in general for this series. But, I couldn't get into it. It does have a great main character but I found myself bored through most of it. Precious Ramostwe has a rough life in the past. To get away from it and to help other she decides ...

I loved this little book! After her dear father dies, Precious Ramotswe suddenly has enough money to do whatever she wants and so she decides to open the best (and only) Ladies' Detective Agency in Botswana. Even though starting a business is not easy, slowly the cases start arriving, requiring ever...

I'm a fan of mystery novels, although I often find myself less than happy with the subgenre this corresponds to, the so-called "cozy mystery." Several things though lift this above the usual book on the mystery aisle. The style is simple, even spare, and the structure rather loose, but Smith's detec...

Light detective stories that are different and interesting. Not quite to my taste but not bad either a very quick read.

I was searching for this book for a long time. Wanted to buy it, but the price was too high for my pocket money to afford it. Finally bought it from a second hand book dealer in College Street. The money spent on it was totally justified and well spent. Although I wouldn't call this book a detective...

I had heard of this series, and in the mood for a light mystery and fond of those that use settings that most American readers aren't familiar with, I gave the first book a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the combination of warmth and seriousness that Alexandra McCall Smith brought to his stories...

Precious Ramotswe is a complex woman. She loves Botswana, Africa, its people, and her calling to serve them:"She was a good detective, and a good woman. A good woman in a good country, one might say. She loved her country, Botswana, which is a place of peace, and she loved Africa, for all its trials...

First in a series. I enjoyed this book. She is the first lady detective in Botswana and this proves some difficulty. However, by the end of the book she is pretty good at solving cases and finding people.

I started this to relieve the boredom of reading IT by Stephen King and to begin with I thought that it was nice, but nothing special. Now I am thinking I am going to have to read the rest of the series! It's a nice little book, light hearted, easy to read and relaxing. It's also quite steady, old fa...

After a slow start, it fortunately quickly picked up and ended up a very enjoyable read. It's not a page turner by any means, but like the Mitford series (although very different in genre otherwise) it's a cozy and comfortable read that doesn't require too much of the reader. The perfect summer-read...
